Take your photographs to another level! If you are interested in mixed
media and/or collage, this is the workshop for you. With plain or matte paper inkjet
prints, or Xeroxes, you will learn how to transfer your photos onto virtually
any surface using acrylic mediums and gels.
Two different techniques will be explored – the direct transfer and the
acrylic “skin”. Supply list, including recommended surfaces, provided at

THE GARDENER’S PALETTE WORKSHOP
with Nancy Gilbert & Elizabeth Nehls
Looking for ways to make spring come early? Join Master Gardener Nancy Gilbert and artist Elizabeth Nehls as they help you rethink your garden to make it visually stunning and a true reflection of you. The workshop will focus on using color in the garden to achieve a desired effect, plant combinations and architectural elements, as well as the importance of incorporating a variety of shapes and textures into your planting schemes. Please bring photos or sketches of your garden, especially of the areas you would like to focus on. And remember - a beautiful garden is a work of art! Drawing materials for use in class provided.

THE ART OF DRAWING
Drawing is the oldest and most personal of art skills, as well as fundamental to good painting and designing. Whether you’re a beginner looking to learn drawing basics or a more experienced artist looking to improve, foundation drawing techniques are a must. Topics covered will include line contour, value rendering, proportion, perspective, texture and the basics of good composition. Session 1 will also include techniques for drawing with oil pastels, while Session 2 will include instruction on drawing with pen and ink. Material list provided at registration. (4 classes/session)

DRAWING

Still Life: May 19 & 26
Starting
with contour lines students will learn to see overlapping, foreshortening,
proportion, positive and negative space, and shading to create a three dimensional
feeling.
Human Head: June 2 & 9
Drawing the
head can be a simple procedure when following basic steps. Using plaster craft
models, as well as photographs, to study shapes and values, students will
realize that a head and face is really just a lot of shapes arranged in various
ways.

LIFE DRAWING FOR ALL LEVELS
Instructor: Jacqueline Gelfuso
This workshop will provide instruction in
drawing the nude and clothed human figure. Beginner to advanced students will
be introduced to the posed figure, instructed on form, anatomy, drawing and
measuring techniques. Intermediate to advanced students will hone their skills.
Participants will learn to use line like an old master, light and shade like
Caravaggio, and create dramatic and dynamic structure like Michelangelo. Material
list provided at registration. Teens welcome with parental permission.

This class will introduce students to painting in
watercolor. Class will start with a talk about watercolor materials and their
unique techniques to help you choose the right supplies. Classes will then
progress from exercises utilizing techniques, such as color selection, mixing,
composition and use-of-value to help develop strong, effective paintings. Basic
drawing skills are needed for this class, but the instructor will offer

define shapes and add drama. This class will focus on adding light to enhance
the viewer’s emotional response. Bring a photo and drawing on watercolor paper
of a spring scene with high light contrast.

Instructor will discuss seeing and understanding the behavior of reflections and demonstrate painting them.
Bring photo and drawing on watercolor paper of reflection of your choice.
Focus on Rescuing Paintings: May 17
Bring two paintings you have given up on or that has aspects you're not satisfied with.
Instructor will offer solutions and demonstrate techniques to help you deal with problem issues.

NEW! INTRO TO PLEIN AIR
Instructor:

Summer time and outdoor painting is fun and relaxing. Don't be intimidated if you are not experienced in drawing from real life. Ms. Greaf will show you how to choose your subject and stick with it as you draw, then paint it. You'll learn to plan for fluctuation of sun and tide. You'll be helped with composition, color selection, atmospheric perspective and other painting/drawing challenges of distance. Bring your art supplies, regardless of medium, and the items you need to work outside (including a camera). We'll set up by the Harbor in Historic Stony Brook, looking toward the wetlands. There are various scenes, some with buildings, boats, etc. to be viewed from that vantage point, depending on your interest. We'll be painting by the parking lot across from the Three Village Inn, thus no problem carrying your equipment. Take a break for lunch when you need to. There are nearby restaurants with lots of carryout options. Equipment suggestions will be provided upon registration.

BOTANICAL ART

Be inspired
by the EEAC Gallery show Botanicals.
Artist Barbara Stype, member of American Society of Botanical Artists and
certification from the Society of Botanical Artists in England, will share her
passion for painting botanical art. The focus will be on how to draw and paint
your own botanically correct bulbs, crocuses and tulips in watercolor. All

EAST ASIAN BRUSH
PAINTING

Learn
to paint in the East Asian style using bamboo brushes, sumi ink and rice paper.
Students are trained to master brushstrokes and skills to capture the essence

PAINTING IN OIL

Join artist Laura Stroh and learn how to create beautiful

LANDING
Instructor: Pepsi Freund
Join artist Pepsi Freund on the scenic grounds of Peconic Landing in Greenport for two days of plein air painting. She will demonstrate how to fill your landscapes with light and life, as well as offer guidance on perspective, value and composition. All painting media welcome. MIXED MEDIA CLASSES
RUGHOOKING
Dating back to the 18th century, traditional rug-hooking has evolved from utilitarian into the art of “painting with fiber.” In this class award-winning fiber artist Abby Vakay will give an overview of the history and art of rug-hooking and present examples of hooked rugs. Participants will learn the hooking technique and begin a small piece in class. Choose a pattern designed by the instructor, and learn to create your own.
Discussions
on color-planning, design, finishing, and a dye lesson will be included. No
experience necessary. Materials $60, including pattern, frame and hook, payable

THE ART OF
PAPERMAKING
Lint, herbs, grass, threads and fibers can all be used in making beautiful handmade paper. In this workshop you will learn how to incorporate just about anything into paper using traditional techniques. On day two students will take their newly acquired papermaking skills to a new level using their one-of-a-kind papers to complete a Japanese style bound artist book. Experimentation with paper clay inclusions and alternative collage techniques will be explored. Materials $25, due to instructor at first class. (2 sessions)

CARL JUNG ARCHETYPE MASK MAKING
In celebrating the publication of Carl Jung’s Redbook, students will learn about Dr. Jung’s Collective Unconscious and the 12 Archetypes that are present throughout our lives. A short survey will illuminate your most prominent Archetypes. You will then make a plaster cast mixed media mask based on the Archetype of your choice. Students will leave this workshop with a beautiful mixed media piece as well a better understanding of themselves. No experience necessary. Materials $15, due to instructor at class.

This
workshop will help amateur photographers gain knowledge of lighting, lenses,
exposure, digital files, composition and creativity to help them see more
keenly, and better capture images with impact. Concepts of intention,
interpretation, visualization, predictability and surprise will be used to
expand technical skills and cultivate creative perspective.

Seeking inspiration from the EEAC Gallery show The Body in Motion, students will explore form in both 2-D and 3-D, learning to draw and sculpt action and movement. Using a variety of traditional cartooning techniques students will draw, ink and hand-color action packed storyboards and comic strips. The class will begin with a series of exercises and demonstrations on how to develop and animate characters using basic shape construction. The instructor will help students create male, female, animal, robotic, and even a character with their likeness, in the popular Anime/ Manga style. (3 classes) Ages 10+ yrs

In this class teens and tweens will learn how to take better photographs as they learn to see through the lens of their camera. As we wander through the grounds of the Arts Council and along the Peconic Riverfront, we’ll focus on composing images by paying close attention to what fills the frame. Time will also be spent on learning how to edit photos. Bring digital camera with enough memory to store 50 images. (4 classes) Ages 10+ yrs
