A POETRY TEA PARTY
with Julie Sheehan, 2009 NYFA Fellow in Poetry
Celebrate spring with a poetry tea party. This poetry workshop will focus on reawakening the imagination after the long winter with short, fun writing prompts, an impromptu poetry reading to share our poems, and some mint or oolong tea, for conviviality.

MUSIC CLASSES/INSTRUCTION

JAZZ IN THE CARRIAGE
HOUSE
A hands-on clinic, taught by master jazz musician, Billy Johnson, for all musicians interested in developing and improving their improvisation skills and knowledge of jazz and blues. This monthly program will focus on the theory, practice and applications of jazz improv, harmony, historical perspectives, and listening/performing techniques. Participants should have basic music reading skills and basic knowledge of their instrument. Bring your instrument! If you are not ready to join in and jam, come listen, learn and enjoy!

AFRICAN DRUMMING
Learn traditional West African hand drumming and chant this spring and be ready for the EEAC Summer Drum Circle! Instruction includes proper hand/sound techniques, traditional rhythms and chant. Drums provided for on-site use. (8 sessions)

First half hour is
devoted to beginner instruction and basic skills. Intermediate and advanced
students may join in for review or begin the class at 7PM.
NOTA BENE CHAMBER ENSEMBLE
Open to all band & orchestra instruments, this program, in the master class format, will enable students to progress to a new level of musicianship. Participants must have completed NYSSMA Level 4 or meet with instructor. Community performances scheduled throughout the semester. (14 sessions) Ages 9+ yrs, NYSSMA Level 4 or higher

SUZUKI GROUP VIOLIN FOR CHILDREN
The Suzuki Violin Method is based on the same process as learning a language and consists of a group lesson and a private instructional time for one-on-one attention. Parents maintain an active role gaining an understanding of rhythmical and pitch sensitivity while learning to handle the violin along with their child. Violin necessary for both student and parent. (15 sessions) Ages 3+ yrs

SUZUKI CELLO/VIOLIN FOR CHILDREN
Instructor: Jeannie Woelker
This 30-minute private lesson will include rhythm, music-reading games, ear training, tone recognition, and placement and proper handling of the instrument. The parent learns along-side their child, becoming the “at-home teacher,” and maintains an active role throughout the course of study. Cello/violin necessary for student and parent. (15 lessons) Ages 3+ yrs

BEGINNER GROUP GUITAR

EEAC CHOIR
This choir is designed for adults who love to sing - and you
won’t have to audition! Includes a review voice fundamentals; breathing, tone
placement, harmonizing. The group will develop a chorale repertoire and have

PROFESSIONAL
SONGWRITING
Instructor: Alan St. Jon.
Alan St. Jon, just back from touring with Billy Squier has
either performed with and/or recorded with Genya Raven, Cher, Twisted Sister,
Ronnie Spector, Foreigner, Ted Nugent, Steve Forbert, Phoebe Snow, robin Beck,
Alice Cooper, Tommy Shaw, Iggy Pop, Cinderalla, Michael Bolton, Fiona, Paul
Young, Peter Wolf, Jules Sher, Leslie West, Desmond Child, Elliot Easton, and
John Entwistle and is available to teach professional songwriting. Participants
will meet at Beck studios in Greenport (beckstudios.com) for 5 weeks and
starting from scratch will go through the entire process of creating a popular
song. Final class includes recording and mixing your song. Scheduled on an individual
basis. (5 two-hour sessions), call to schedule. Cost: $750.
MUSIC COMPOSITION
Instructor: George Cork Maul
Noted Long Island composer, George Cork Maul, is accepting students for individual composition instruction. Focus is on creative process and includes melody, harmony, scoring. Open to serious students of all ages. Call to schedule day and time.

EEAC RECORDING STUDIO
Recording studio available with engineer, on location at the Arts Council’s carriage house. Fees starting at $45+ per hour (additional fees based on your specific needs/mixing time). Call for details and schedule.

The above quote speaks to the ability of the performing arts to create a sense of community among its participants. When working with an acting ensemble one achieves a sense of being a part of a whole where each member is crucial. This theatre class is for those with Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and other sensory integration disabilities (SID), their families or anyone who enjoys working in a group. Activities will include a variety of ensemble building techniques, theatre games, and sensory exploration exercises. Instructed by Katheen Morgo AEA/SAG, actor, theatre and movement teaching artist, and certified Spec. Ed. teacher.

RAINBOW GANG THEATRE
Another adventure for the Rainbow Gang! Young actors will learn to use movement and characterization to create a student inspired drama. Each class will begin with a warm-up of body and voice and teach the basics of theater arts performance. The class will culminate with a short production that parents and friends will be invited to attend. Please dress comfortably and bring a water bottle---we are busy from beginning to end! THEATRE FOR KIDS
For every kid who has always dreamed of one day being a performer. This class will develop basic acting skills, vocal techniques, blocking, improv skills, movement and monologue. Students will demonstrate their newly acquired skills in a presentation on the last day of class. (8 classes) Ages 10+ yrs
