In life we often face dualities; the opposition between two forces in our environment, in religion, in humanity; the natural and the industrial, the good and the evil, the female and the male. When balancing these dualities we come to an ultimate unification, but why not toss in an additional element? Does this incorporation create friction or does it create an ultimate enhancement? Can we get balance and unity in three verses two?
In conjunction with the East End Arts Council gallery’s exhibition, “Three”, Shinnecock Artist Courtney M. Leonard, will discuss the value of numbers in regards to historical and contemporary visual aesthetics and introduce how her own cultural landscape has been influential in incorporating the essence of three within her sculptural works.
