The East End Arts Council celebrates the 12th Annual Community Mosaic Street Painting Festival, a Memorial Day weekend tradition in downtown Riverhead, where families and friends enjoy the creative spirit together. Musicians perform, artists exhibit and craftspeople along with artisans display and sell their handmade and homemade goods. Kids’ activities are part of this creative day-long event, along with street painters of all ages who create an eye-catching, unique mosaic of color on the street pavement, attracting thousands of spectators.

Be an Exhibiting Artist!
The 12th Annual Riverhead Community Mosaic Street Painting Festival, presented by the East End Arts Council, will be held on Sunday, May 25th from 12-5 pm (rain date, May 26th). The Arts Council invites professional artists and craftspeople to submit photos of their work for consideration for the fine art and craft sale, which will be held outdoors. Arts and crafts of fine quality that are priced for a family event are recommended. We also encourage artisans of homemade goods such as soaps, potpourri, jams, etc. to display and sell their wares. Artists and artisans may reserve a 10’ x 10’ space for a $30.00 fee for EEAC members/$60 for non-members. Display setup, which begins at 9 am, and removing the artwork (no earlier than 5 pm), will be the responsibility of the artists. Tables and chairs will not be provided. All sales transactions are between the artist and purchaser, and the artists are responsible for sales-tax permits. There are no commissions taken by the Arts Council on sales of artwork and crafts. This event will take place along East Main Street and on the grounds of the Arts Council. The day-long celebration of Long Island’s beauty includes an art and craft show and sale, a street painting festival, performances by local musicians, and several interactive activities for children including arts and crafts, storytelling and a life-sized checkers tournament.

Be a Madonnari Street Painter!
Dating back to the 16th Century, street painters in Italy created works of art in front of cathedrals paying homage to the Virgin Mary. These artists were called “i madonnari”. Be a street painter alone, or with your family and friends. There is no cost to you. We will provide the chalk and blending materials. We do recommend you bring kneepads and a hat. Artwork must be suitable for public viewing. No words or symbols intended as advertising may appear within the image. The sponsor’s name will appear above the space. Artists are encouraged to sign their name within the image. Street painting squares are given on a first-come basis. You will be notified of acceptance prior to the event. Street painters agree that work done in conjunction with this festival may be reproduced by photograph or video and used by the East End Arts Council for promotional purposes.

Sponsorship of Street Painting Squares supports the scholarship program at the East End Arts Council School of the Arts. Your business name or dedication will be inscribed above your street square.
