Artist Statement: Debbie Tierney
Growing up on a tiny island in Ohio, in the middle of Lake Erie, infused in me a deep appreciation of the natural world that was my childhood. As an adult I carry the joy of memories made from time spent watching bees gather pollen, marveling at the perfection of a flower, shell, tree, mushroom, bird....
Living on yet another, much larger island, I still find marvel in the beauty that surrounds us. The intention of my art is not to duplicate but, celebrate the beauty in how perfectly nature designs on its own. Linocut is a process where the design is carved into a piece of linoleum, originally used as flooring, then transferred to paper. This medium enables me to articulate the subject with simple lines while infusing movement and life into the subject.
The Riverhead Town Hall art exhibits are a collaborative effort on the part of East End Arts and the Township of Riverhead to support local artists and introduce their works to the community. The public is welcome; admission is free.
Riverhead Town Hall is located at 200 Howell Avenue, on the corner of Howell and East Main Street, in Riverhead, NY. The exhibit is open during business hours. 631-727-3200
