Why does Riverhead need JumpstART?

It's All About Creative Placemaking

Creative Placemaking…

  • Places artists and the arts at the center of planning, execution and activity
  • Leverages the creative potential already present in a place
  • Expands opportunities for people of all income levels and backgrounds to thrive in place
  • Supports economic diversity in the community, provides multiple points of entry and interaction for people of all incomes
  • Creates interesting places that capitalize on distinctiveness
  • Is a creative approach for improving the aesthetics of a place
  • Creates a place where people want to go and linger

The interaction between diverse groups of people can create open relationships that expand opportunities and fosters a sense of welcoming. A place where interest is created gives a presence to the area that promotes pedestrian activity and a feeling of liveliness and engagement. More pedestrians equals an increase in prospective customers to support small businesses.
