oil and wax on linen, 54 x 54 in
Louise Crandell makes lusciously surfaced paintings with oil and wax which rest poetically between abstraction and landscape, between memory and reality. She was born in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, has lived on the Montana/Canadian border, upstate New York, the shore of Lake Michigan, on the Atlantic coast, in Manhattan and now part time in East Marion. All these places have in some way influenced what she paints. Crandell had her first exhibition in New Zealand in 1994. She shows with VSOP Projects in Greenport and Cheryl Hazan Gallery in New York City.
