Kasmira Mohanty
December 4, 2013 – March 4, 2014

Kasmira Mohanty began her artistic career in the photographic industry as a studio photographer and master darkroom printer. She was driven to expand her artistic vocabulary in 1992 when a friend of exposed her to Photoshop. This was before most people knew what a jpeg was. Photoshop was a revelation to her, as important as the introduction of the metal paint tube was to the Impressionists. It would completely change the direction of her artistic goals and aspirations. Fast-forward a few years and although the majority of her work may be heavily affected by digitalization, Kasmira maintains a balance and enjoys working with traditional mediums as well. Some of her favorite mediums include ink, watercolor, acrylic, printmaking, photography, and spray paint. When the mood strikes or a project requires it, she scans hand-rendered elements into the computer and experiment with combining traditional and digital components. Kasmira Mohanty comments: “I’m currently inspired by graffiti, street art and patterns. I am constantly visiting other artists’ work for obvious reasons. These influences tend to find their way into my work.”
