Cynthia Parry
oil painter / Center Moriches, NY
March 6 - May 29, 2015

Painter Cynthia Parry was born in Freeport, New York in 1951. Until 1982 her professional training was in secondary English education; while continuing her career as a full-time teacher, she began a second career as a visual artist, working primarily in charcoal, oil, and oil pastel. Based on the strength of her portfolio of drawings, she was awarded a merit scholarship for a year of full-time study at the Art Students' League in 1988. In 1998 she was accepted for a summer of study at the International School of Art in Umbria, Italy, founded by the Abstract Expressionist painter Nicholas Carone, who selected four of her paintings for inclusion in the ISA Gallery show in Montecastillo di Vibio. After her return from this program she was accepted for study at Sam Adoquei's atelier on Union Square where she stayed until 2005. In 2002 she was a resident artist in painting at the Vermont Studio Center (VSC); she was a resident artist at VSC again in 2004. She has exhibited in juried shows throughout Long Island, including those at The Parrish Art Museum, the Islip Museum, the Smithtown Arts Council, and East End Arts. In addition to the scholarship from the Art Students' League, she has received a New York State Purchase Award through the Firehouse Gallery at Nassau Community College; an award of merit from the National Drawing Association; and a Best in Show Award in the "La Morte" exhibition at East End Arts. Ms. Parry is represented by the Fitzgerald Gallery in Westhampton Beach.
