East End Arts (EEA) presents a unique collaboration between talented young musicians, singers, and dancers on the East End who participate in classes at EEA School and the Peconic Ballet Theatre (PBT).
Students chose an eclectic combination of classical and current music performed on piano, violin, & cello, with special vocal presentations and dancers from PBT. A total of 35 students are performing; giving students the chance to perform and shine is the goal of both schools. PerformHER is also an opportunity to raise money for both entities, expanding more possibilities for our young East Enders who cannot afford extracurricular classes in theatre, art, music, or dance a chance to explore their creative side and follow their dreams.
EEA is opening the concert with It’s a Mans World; somewhat ironic choice because most connect James Brown to the song, but it was actually penned by Betty Jean Newsome. Ms. Newsome tried to claim the song, but never received any real credit or proceeds; signifying the struggles that women faced while attempting to be heard. Therefore, EEA takes this opportunity during Women’s History Month to honor those that did not give up - who pursued their talent and left behind a legacy to be enjoyed for years to come.
