John Ray is a modern master of acoustic and electric bass and jazz styles and improvisation. Performances with Dizzy Gillespie, Roy Haynes, Buddy Rich, Harry Connick Jr., Branford Marsalis, Michael Brecker, Woody Herman, Joe Lovano, Barry Harris, Jaki Byard, Lenny White, Warne Marsh. Currently adjunct professor of jazz bass studies at C.W. Post College. A graduate of NYC’s H.S. of Performing Arts, Mr. Ray received his BMA in Bass Performance from Manhattan School of Music.

Jeff Lederer , Director of Jazz Studies at LIU Post, has known John for many years, "John is a wonderful bassist on both upright and electric instruments, and is one of the leading jazz bassists on the Long Island scene. At LIU Post he teaches jazz bass lessons as well as coaching our Jazz Combo 2. John’s passion for the music, as well as for the students comes across very clearly – He is a dedicated instructor and works hard to present materials that are appropriate for each individual."
